a (blow) job well done

i have been a long time critic of leaf blowers, it is my belief that they are contributing to obesity in this country. elbow grease is a thing to be replaced by 'above the elbow fat jiggle'. today i blew. and blew, and blew, and blew. the pig in bricks would not have survived my obsessive blowing.

there is a significant amount of power put out by these little horticultural machines, my fingers were going into cramp just gripping the handles. i am surprised dorothy and toto didnt fly out of the swirling mass of leaves, grass and other backyard debris. no wonder you see overweight retirees wielding leaf blowers in small town usa-ville neighborhoods near you.

I looked for an old post that I'd written about leaf blowers but couldn't find it - on the 'verboten' blog, it was about my lawn and lawn maintenance and how I really hate it all sort of - and, in the absence of that proof of its having crossed my mind let me assure you that I've given blog-attention to this very apparatus: my take is that they're totally american in that they're, for one, noisy as hell, and, two, that they're all about moving your problem into the street (the public), or another's lawn in the interest of avoiding the real issue under the cloak of "cleaning it up." Yay! The difference between doing this with a blower and doing this with a rake - moving leaves into a pile or just away - is that with the blower you make NOISE. Lots of it. And, it's easier not to give a sh*t where the leaves go - it's so easy! Just blow them away.
