the great american open road, wind in my hair, music on the radio, kerouac...the reality was chronic backache, a lesson in learning how to pump petrol that involved human interaction, as not every place has the handy dandy swipe 'n pump option. driving cross country as a single female was not the big scary news headline that my mother panicked it would be. it would have been nice to have a bit of company in the co-pilot's seat, but then they would have had to endure some weepy female moments.
sometimes there are things you just need to go ahead and do on your own.
