scabies

no, i have not added this to my list of assorted skin disorders (yet). rather, there has been an outbreak of scabies at work (amongst a couple of new kids). panic ensued (amongst the staff).

scabies comes from the latin "to scratch". we are all feeling itchy. the resident counselors have been quarantining the bean bags, linens, and are shrouded in gowns like extras from ER. they are not happy. they do not appreciate my encouragement (minimization) "oh, you'll be fine. you haven't really come into contact with it".

rather than ask the health clinic for a topical treatment for the kids' skin, i would like to request an oral sedative for the staff.

Funny! My sister's kids picked up lice once from her X's new girlfriend's kids. My sister was SO Freaked!! It also gave her a place to point blame...you;re right, she needed valium.

Scabies is THE WORST!!!!!!!!!! My nephews brought it over once. It was SO MUCH WORK and so much poison and so much laundry detergent and so many vacuum cleaner bags and so many tears over why my daughter couldn't sleep with her favorite teddy bear for however many weeks...

We did manage to keep it confined to just my nephews after all that. But ever since, I NEVER EVER touch a rash if one of my preschoolers has one.
